Here’s a delicious twist on the classic Strawberries and Cream, using kefir for a tangy, probiotic-rich spin! This recipe is light, creamy, and ideal for a quick treat.
Ingredients:
1 cup frozen strawberries, thawed
1/2 - 1 cup plain organic full-fat kefir
1-2 tbsp honey (adjust to taste)
Instructions:
Prepare the Strawberries:
Thaw the frozen strawberries and combine them with honey. Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the natural juices of the strawberries to be released.
Make the Kefir Cream and Serve:
In a bowl, add the kefir. Top it with the strawberry-honey mixture, including all the juices released by the strawberries. Gently swirl to combine, and serve immediately.
Benefits of Kefir:
Rich in Probiotics: Contains several strains of beneficial bacteria (like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium), which improve gut health and digestion.
Boosts Immunity: Probiotics in kefir stimulate the immune system, increasing resistance to infections and balancing gut bacteria.
Digestive Health: Lactase enzyme in kefir helps break down lactose, making it easier to digest for those with lactose intolerance.
Bone Health: High in calcium (about 300 mg per cup) and vitamin K2, which help the body absorb calcium and support bone strength.
Protein Source: One cup of kefir provides 6-8 grams of protein, supporting muscle growth and repair.
Skin Health: Contains vitamin D, zinc, and probiotics, which may improve hydration and reduce skin inflammation.
Anti-Inflammatory: Probiotics and bioactive compounds in kefir help reduce systemic inflammation, which may alleviate conditions like arthritis and heart disease.
